Eagle Pass High School Beats the Odds!

On August 19, 2015 Newsweek, a premier weekly news magazine owned by IBT Media announced the results of the 2015 High School Rankings, created in collaboration with research partner Westat.

The rankings included list of “America’s Top High Schools” which identifies 500 public high schools nationwide that excel at preparing students for college by measuring factors including graduation rate, college enrollment rate, SAT and ACT scores and participation, AP/IB scores and participation, full time counselors to student ratio, dropout rate, enrollment in college courses during high school and state test scores as well as “Beating the Odds,” a list of 500 public high school ranked on all the above measures but also accounts for the effects of social inequality on education by factoring in student poverty as reflected by eligibility for free/ reduced price lunches.

Since 2014, Newsweek has published two separate lists in an effort to address the complexities of assessing “America’s Top High Schools” when students socioeconomic backgrounds are taken into account.

We are pleased to announce that Eagle Pass High School has been ranked 333 in Newsweek’s 2015 “Beating the Odds” list.

This is a one of two prestigious awards for EPHS.   Back in in July, U.S. News & World Report announced the 2015 Best High School rankings, also highlighting Eagle Pass High School.   They were awarded a National Silver Medal, and were ranked # 201 in the state and # 2,251 in the entire nation.
