As a part of the English I poetry Unit review, Mrs. Torres students at Winn were asked to write an ode to commemorate an important person, thing or idea in their life.
Students were introduced to several pieces of poetry from their current novel read, "Under the Mesquite" where author Guadalupe Garcia McCall speaks about important pieces of her life.
Among the poems they read, were "Elotes" and "Ice Cream from Heaven" where McCall writes about the value these items had in her life.
To extend the reading and make it their own, students wrote an ode on May 2nd.
Mrs. Torres took Popsicles for the students who competed their ode writing successfully and put their effort into their work.
Students enjoyed a yummy treat as part of their poetry writing.
