C.C. WINN HIGH SCHOOL’S UIL ACADEMICS

On March 21-22, 2014, C.C. Winn High School traveled to Alexander High School in Laredo, Texas and participated in the District 29-5A Academic District Meet. Individual results are as followed:

In Computer Science: Jesus Vasquez – 2nd Place {Advances to Regionals}, David Chavarria – 3rd Place

In Feature Writing: Arianna Gomez – 5th Place

In Headline Writing: Sofia Casas – 1st Place {Advances to Regionals}

In Lincoln Douglas Debate: Paola Garcia-Zuazua – 1st Place {Advances to Regionals}, Juan Guerra – 2nd Place

{Advances to Regionals}, and Rodrigo Borrego – 3rd Place {Advances to Regionals}

In News Writing: Arianna Gomez – 5th Place

In Persuasive Speaking: Adrian Gonzalez – 3rd Place {Advances to Regionals}

In Poetry Interpretation: Karina Esquivel – 6th Place

In Prose Interpretation: Frank Chavarria – 2nd Place {Advances to Regionals}

In Ready Writing: Arianna Gomez – 5th Place

In Social Studies: Herminia Cruz – 1st Place {Advances to Regionals}, Juan De Hoyos – 4th Place, and Bethzaida Navarro – 6th Place

The C.C. Winn High School took 1st Place team in Computer Science, and in Social Studies. They also took 2nd Place team in Speech.

The Computer Science team is comprised of Jesus Vasquez, David Chavarria, Jose Pedro Jimenez, and Alan Reyes. The Social Studies team is comprised of Herminia Cruz, Juan De Hoyos, Bethzaida Navarro, and Alberto Hernandez. Both teams will also be advancing to Regionals.

The Region IV Academic Meet is scheduled for May 1st – 3rd at UTSA in San Antonio, Texas. We wish the best of luck to all advancing competitors and their coaches. A round of applause is in order for all of the C.C. Winn HS UIL participants and coaches on a job well done.
