Ivana Muza to attend Young Yale Scholars Program

C C WINN High School is proud to announce that Ivana Muza, 11th grade GEAR UP student has been selected to participate in the Young Yale Global Scholars program with paid tuition, room and board, hosted at Yale University in New Haven Connecticut.
The Young Yale Global Scholars offer interdisciplinary and pre-collegiate sessions. Participants will live and work together as a community in an environment and curriculum tailored especially for high achieving high school students like Ivana.
Admission is very selective. For example, for summer 2015 Young Yale Global Scholars accepted around 27% of all applications for its three sessions. In Ivana’s case, she competed for a spot with around 115 applicants from 115 countries and at least one applicant from all 50 USA states.
Ivana Muza applied for the Sustainability, Energy and Environment session hosted from July 26th – August 8th 2016; in which she will be able to analyze and discuss how people have influenced the environment and what effects it has had in present day society. Emphasis will be given to issues arising in agriculture, food security, climate change, biodiversity, sustainable development, evolutionary patterns and migration.
Ivana’s application essay spotlighted on the fact that living near the Rio Grande River and living in one of the poorest counties in the U.S.  Has given her a perspective of the climate and the environment that not many have.
Ivana’s application consisted of one main essay, three short responses, a resume, two recommendation letters, as well as financial aid application.
Due to this recognition, GEAR UP IV will be providing with additional costs such as transportation and meals so that Ivana may attend.

CC Winn High School Administration, GEAR UP IV, and EPISD
would like to congratulate Ivana for a job well done.
