UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest

The Memorial Junior High bands received a first division Superior Sweepstakes rating at the UIL Concert and Sight-reading contest which was held at the SAC on Thursday, April 10. The varsity band has received a sweepstakes rating for seven consecutive years, making it the longest active streak in Eagle Pass.

The non-varsity band competed for the first time since 2006, and they received a sweepstakes rating. A sweepstakes rating involves making a first division in both the concert portion and a first division in the sight-reading portion of the contest. For the

sight-reading portion of the contest, the students have to perform a music selection that they have not seen. The director has only eight minutes to explain it to them before they perform and then its only talent that will see them through to a successful rating. Well done MJH Bands, Band Directors Mr. Jorge Vargas and Mr. Abel Granados.
