MJH Band Director Composes Hit

Eagle Pass ISD would like to take this time to applaud and congratulate, Memorial Junior High Band Director Mr. Jorge Vargas, for his grand accomplishment with his composition, "Red Giant".

Mr. Vargas' work will be performed at the Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conference. The conference will be held in Chicago on December 15-18.  The Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conference is the largest music conference in the United States, with over 18,000 people attending from all over the world.

Mr. Vargas' composition will be performed by the Keller Wind ensemble from Keller, Texas. The music that is performed at the Midwest Clinic is very carefully selected by each group, which makes it a truly special event for the composers.

It is indeed a great honor for each composer to hear their music performed at the Midwest Clinic, and it is extremely rare for a Hispanic composer to have his music performed at this event. This recognition is similar to someone getting their artwork displayed at the Smithsonian!

Mr. Vargas stated, "I am very honored to represent the city of Eagle Pass and the Eagle Pass Independent School District with my music, and now everyone at the conference will know where I am from."
Mr. Vargas' other accomplishments include a string orchestra composition that is on the Prescribed Music List and band composition, "Luna Y Fuego", that was listed on the Bandworld Top 100 Band Songs of 2020.

Congratulations Mr. Vargas and thank you for being an inspiration to your students and colleagues alike!

Title I, Part A Meeting

Congratulations to Mr. David Even: October Teacher of the Month

Eagle Pass Independent School District has partnered with local businesses throughout our city to highlight the Teacher of the Month program, which honors educators who have made a difference in our community.  The program recognizes outstanding kindergarten, elementary, junior high, and high school teachers in Eagle Pass, Texas.

October's Teacher of the Month is none other than the Eagle Pass High School's, Mr. David Even. Now entering his 5th year of teaching at EPHS, Mr. Even has demonstrated his method of teaching in a profound manner to all of his students. He is currently teaching World Geography, Boys Basketball, and in the spring he will tackling AP Macroeconomics. In the spectrum of World Geography, he is able to bring the outside world to the eyes of freshmen level students. He introduces these young students to different lands, cultures, and ways of thinking to students who may never have the opportunity to travel beyond our hometown of Eagle Pass. In the realm of AP Macroeconomics, he exposes students to the world of finances, investments, and most importantly credit. This is vital since most of the AP students will be graduating and venturing into the real world shortly. As a coach for Boys Basketball, he has the privilege of introducing his athletes to the skills they will need to succeed in the sport and in life. He makes sure his lessons can transcend on and off the court,

Mr. David Even is an asset to EPHS, EPISD, and Eagle Pass, Texas. He is the type of person that will never back down from any challenge and will take it on head first with a smile on his face and a heart full of love for his students. For all these reasons and more, Mr. David Even is Teacher of the Month.

A segment will appear on iVision throughout the month of October detailing many more accomplishments of Mr. Even.  This month he will also appear on community media, news publications and the EPISD website throughout October 2021.  A teacher will be selected each month through May 2021 for a total of eight (8) honorees.  The “Teacher of the Month” will be chosen based on educational achievements in the classroom, community contributions and innovative programs and techniques used by the teacher. The “Teacher of the Month” will receive a certificate of recognition and will be featured on iVision, local media news, news publications and radio broadcasting.  Additionally, each “Teacher of the Month” will receive donations from local businesses.

Each T.O.M is receiving a “V.I.T (Very Important Teacher) Parking Pass”, a jean voucher for a month, Whataburger Gift Card, and Class Cash to purchase class room supplies. Additionally, each “Teacher of the Month” will receive donations from local businesses.  Thank You Border Federal Credit Union, Ashley Furniture, 1212 Chisolm Group, EPISD Spirit Ambassadors, and Peter Piper Pizza.
