WHS CELEBRATES 23-24 TEACHER OF THE YEAR

 CC Winn High School is proud to announce that their Teacher of the Year is Mr. Adolfo Flores!

Mr. Flores has been an educator for 36 years and he still continues to spread the love of the arts with his students and the community.

On Thursday, April 25th, his Drama Club students surprised him with a cake and gift basket and the Winn EPISD Spirit Ambassadors treated him to a plant!

Maverick Nation is so pleased to see the students celebrated a beloved teacher and staff member!

RAY DARR CLAIMS 3RD PLACE TITLE IN LONESTAR MATH CUP

217 days, 12.9 million math lessons completed, over 373 million complex math problems solved, and the Lonestar Math Cup has come to a close! 

Ray H. Darr Elementary of Eagle Pass ISD is the 2024 Lonestar Math Cup 3rd State Title holder!  

Congratulations! 

The Mavs are now etched in Imagine Math history!

EPHS MARIACHI SNATCHES TOP HONORS

 The Eagle Pass High School Mariachi Aguilas Del Norte participated in the TAMIU Mariachi Workshop/Competition. 

They won 1st place in their division and won best trumpets, violin and armonia. 

Braulio Cardenas also received an outstanding Violin award and will receive a scholarship. 

The Eagle Music Department and staff is extremely proud of your accomplishments!

 Congratulations to the newest NHS Inductees at CC WINN Pass High School.

EPHS SENIOR LIFTS EAGLES TO NATIONALS


Rito Flores Jr., EPHS senior, won 2nd place in the Boys Raw Varsity 74kg category out of 13 very highly qualified competitors across the United States at the Powerlifting America High School Nationals in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 20, 2024.


Rito’s successful attempts consisted of 210 kgs (463lbs) for squat, 147.5 kgs (325 lbs) for bench, and 220 kgs (485 lbs) for deadlift. 
Rito will be competing next month at the IPF World Classic & Equipped Bench Press Championships in Austin, TX. Congratulations to Rito and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.

DARR TOPS ATTENDANCE WEEK OF 4/15 - 4/19


 

EAGLE PASS FFA WINS STATE TITLE


 The Eagle Pass FFA is super proud to announce that the Plant Identification team are State Champions!

They competed at the State FFA competition held at Texas Tech in Lubbock on Saturday, April 20, 2024, and won BIG. 

Anahi Molina was 2nd high point individual in the STATE, and close behind was Jesus Mambo Adan in 6th, Jimena Molina in 13th, and Alina Aza. 

This is the 2nd State Plant Identification Championship that Eagle Pass FFA has won. 

It has been years in the making!

The students have been working hard at learning how to identify Texas range plants and their traits through lots of studying and practice, attending invitational competitions, and even attending summer workshops. 

We are so proud that their hard work and dedication have finally paid off.



EPHS BASEBALL EARNS PLAY - IN SPOT


 Friday, April 19th, the EPHS Eagles defeated Del Rio 5-3! 

The Eagles came back to win in the 7th inning, after trailing the Rams for most of the game. 

This game was especially sweet for seniors as they were recognized following their victory. 

Congratulations to the following grads of 2024: Izhar Mauricio, JP Perales, Kadrian Rodriguez, Gerardo Gomez, Jordan Ramirez, Kira Gonzalez, Madelyn Nava & Jeronimo Rodriguez. 

Principal, Mr. Luis Huerta and the entire Eagle Family would like to wish them all the best of luck as they fight to secure a playoff spot on Tuesday in Del Rio at 7PM!

WHS INTERACT CLUB RINGS IN EARTH DAY

 The CC Winn Interact Club participated with the Eagle Pass Rotary Club this past weekend at the Earth Day Events.  

Children of all ages were able to paint on the canvases their version of the Earth and how they see nature. 

The event was held at San Juan Plaza and was attended by many from the community. 



EPHS SENIOR NAMED UTSA TOP SCHOLAR

 The UTSA Top Scholar program is a premier scholar program, well-known and highly regarded across the state for developing award-winning, academically talented, and exceptional servant leaders. 

High-caliber students from across Texas are recruited to be part of this exciting program. 

EPHS is proud to congratulate senior, Paola Sarabia for this distinction.

WHS SENIOR NAMED TERRY FOUNDATION SCHOLAR

Congratulations to CC Winn High School Senior Caleb Medellin who has been named a recipient of the prestigious Terry Foundation Scholarship. 

The Terry Foundation supports students with exceptional leadership skills, scholastic ability, and the drive to succeed. 

Terry Scholars are selected from a highly competitive applicant pool of incoming freshmen to receive full-ride scholarships renewable for up to four years from the Terry Foundation. 

Caleb plans to attend Texas State University to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. 

Congratulations Caleb and best of luck at Texas State!

 Congratulations to the following Eagle Pass High School Eagle Athletes for excelling at their most recent track meet in San Antonio on April 10, 2024.

Area Champ and Regional Qualifier, senior, Paulina Escobar, meets 11' in the Pole Vault at Heroes Stadium. 


Xavier Barrera, Jorge Sierra, Sebastian Velasquez & Diego Gracida placed 2nd in the 4x200 Meter Relay.

Sebastian Velasquez, Jorge Martinez, Rodrigo Garcia & Diego Gracida placed 4th in the 4x400 Meter Relay

Jose Hernandez placed 4th in the 200 Meters

EPHS Junior, Analy Torres is a Regional Qualifier for the 200m dash and broke the school record with a 25:78!

C.C. Winn, EPHS & Memorial join to present “A Night of One Act Plays”

 C.C. Winn, EPHS & Memorial join to present “A Night of One Act Plays” on Wednesday, April 17th at EPISD Fine Arts Center

      The true story of John Merrick, “The Elephant Man,” will be retold on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at the Raul A. Gonzalez Fine Arts Center at the Student Activity Center by the C.C. Winn High School UIL One Act Play Cast and Crew.

       “The Elephant Man” will be presented along with the Eagle Pass High School UIL one act play production of “Ripcord” and Memorial Jr. High School’s one act play “Any Body For Tea?”  The night of one act plays will begin at 6 p.m.  Tickets are only $5.00 and may be purchased at the door on Wednesday night.

       Winn walked away with the first place trophy at the UIL One Act Play District 28-5A Zone B Contest, which was held in early March.  Their play, “The Elephant Man” was also named as the alternate play to bi-district on March 8th at the district contest held at Medina Valley High School.  

       EPHS won second place at the District 30-6A UIL OAP Contest with their play “Ripcord” and MJHS won third place with their one act play “Any Body For Tea?”  All three plays will be presented on Wednesday night.

       Junior Enrique “Ricky” Escobedo was named the “Best Performer” and won two gold medals at both contests.  He plays the title role in the “Elephant Man.”  Also winning medals at the two contests were senior Serenity Zuniga, who was named to the All-Star Cast, Dalilah Hernandez, who was named to the Honorable Mention All-Star Cast and junior Marcus Orta, who was awarded a medal for All-Star Crew.

        Directed by Adolfo Flores Jr., who will be completing his 36th year as a director for EPISD, “The Elephant Man” tells the story of a man who was born with deformities after his mother was attacked by a wild elephant while she was pregnant.  The play follows his story and the hardships he had to endure.

WHS MUSIC PROGRAM CAPS OFF AMAZING YEAR

 On March 26th and 27th our Memorial JH (Varsity), CC Winn’s Sub Non-Varsity, CC Winn’s Non-Varsity, and CC Winn’s Varsity bands competed at this year’s UIL Concert and Sight-reading Evaluation.  3 Judges in Concert and 3 Judges in Sight-reading agreed to give our bands a Superior rating (Division I).  

This was a great accomplishment to have 100% of our bands succeed at this competition.

Winter Guard traveled to San Antonio, Texas on Saturday April 6, 2024 to compete at this year’s TECA Championships where they placed 2nd in their division behind Churchill HS (6A).


On December 9, 2023 students traveled to San Antonio, Texas to audition for Region 11’s TMEA Region Band.  CC Winn had 6 students Advance to Area, 2 Students make the 5A//6A Wind Symphony,  13 students make the 5A Region Band, and 42 students make the District Band. This is the highest number of students to accomplish these goals.


CC Winn marching band traveled to Converse, Tx on October 14, 2023 where they received their 16th consecutive Sweepstakes rating which has been received every year since the opening of CC Winn HS.  CC Winn’s  Sweepstakes award allowed the band’s advancement to Area competition.


The CC Winn marching band traveled again to Converse, Tx on October 28th, 2023 where they competed with 21 of the best bands from Region 11 (South SA), Region 29 (North SA), and Region 32 (Austin Leander).  CC Winn band was selected as one of ten bands to advance to Area Finals competition later that night.

This is CC Winn’s 4th time making Area Finals.  Our band placed 7th in Finals competition among our State’s Champion Cedar Park HS.


The WHS Music Program's students and staff have worked very hard to make this year a success.  All accolades are a result of hard work and dedication to themusic program.  They will continue to work hard to represent their school, school district, and  community with humility and positive sportsmanship.
