WHS Band Conquers TMEA


The CC Winn music program has continued to excel even through this pandemic.
  UIL and TMEA (Texas Music Educators Association) have done a wonderful job of making accommodations to music competitions in order to keep everyone safe.  

The students at CC Winn, auditioned for TMEA All-Region on December 5th-9th.  The auditions were held virtually by means of submitting recordings of each student performing their All-Region Etudes.  We had 33 students solidify their place as the best in Region 11.  Students auditioned against schools such as: Harlandale HS, McCollum HS, Southwest HS, Southwest Legacy HS, Southside HS, Medina Valley HS, and Kennedy HS.  


 6 students advanced to Area Auditions in January.

Mrs. Flores’ Reading Contest

 A big congratulations to the first grade class of Mrs. Flores at Ray Darr Elementary!  Her students were challenged to participate in the reading contest and together read over 1,000 books!  The top winners in her class received a special prize for reading and testing AR on each book.

1st place winners:  Isabella Curi (reading 114 books) & Caiden Olvera (reading 96 books)
2nd place winner:  Zaid Espinoza (reading 88 books)

EPHS Football Team Named District Champs

Eagle Pass High School’s Varsity Football Team ended their district season with a remarkable 6 - 0 record on Thursday, December 3rd. 

The Eagles have played tenaciously all season long and we are now proud to announce that they are the 30-6A UNDEFEATED District Champs! 

For the 1st time in almost 30 years, your Eagles have had an undefeated season.

EPISD is proud that the Eagle players and coaches have all rallied as one and their hard work and effort has not gone unnoticed. 

Superintendent Mijares applauds them for their great season and for winning with sportsmanship!

Way to go Eagles and good luck in your big Bi-District game against Taft High School on December 11th.

2020 Festival of Lights Contest Winners

Congratulations to all the participants in the 2020 Festival of Lights Contest Winners!

The City of Eagle Pass Parks & Rec are pleased to announce the winners that will receive a $50 gift card and the chance to turn on the Christmas lights at San Juan Plaza tomorrow, December 4, 2020, at 7:00 PM. 

 If students are attending the event, please be at San Juan Plaza Kiosk at 6:30 PM and wear a mask.  

They will practice social distance and make sure they stay safe.  

If winners are not able attend, they can pick up the gift card on Monday, December 7, 2020, at the Multipurpose Center, from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

HONOR ROLL EAGLES


 ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 1, 2020, EAGLE PASS HIGH SCHOOL RECOGNIZED ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE FOR THE 1ST NINE WEEKS OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

 FALL 2020 HAS DEFINITELY BEEN A STRANGE START TO ANY SCHOOL YEAR. 

EPHS PRINCIPAL, MR. LUIS HUERTA, ALONG WITH HIS ADMINISTRATION TEAM, FELT IT WAS NECESSARY TO HIGHLIGHT STUDENTS THAT ARE WORKING DILIGENTLY TO ATTAIN GOOD GRADES. 

RECOGNITION DECALS WERE PICKED UP BY STUDENTS AND PARENTS FOR THIS ACHIEVEMENT! MANY STUDENTS PROUDLY AND QUICKLY POSED FOR PHOTO WITH THEIR DECAL.

 On Tuesday December 1st Graves Elementary Staff received their new jackets, just in time for the chilly weather up ahead! Go Tigers!

FFA CONQUERS CONTEST SEASON

Friday November 20, Eagle Pass FFA competed in 3 competitions.  Our Chapter Quiz team placed 2nd and advanced to state.

The week of November 23rd - 29th, Eagle Pass FFA competed in 5 Area X FFA Leadership Development Competitions and advanced to state in 3 of them.

Both Chapter conducting teams (parliamentary), Freshmen and upperclassmen, placed 2nd.
The upperclassmen FFA Quiz team, that takes a 150 question test over Agricultural knowledge placed 2nd.
These 3 teams compete at state level this week.

The other 2 Area competing teams were the Freshmen Quiz team and our FFA Broadcasting team.
Eagle Pass FFA has never had a Broadcasting team advance to Area level before, and this team did, and competed well!.

EPISD is very proud of these students that are competing so well, even with the state of affairs of our world!

Good luck FFA and job well done to all the participants!

RVE SAR Named Recruiter of the Year

 Eagle Pass Independent School District is pleased to announce Rosita Valley’s Service Advocate Recruiter (SAR) Mrs. Gina Morua was named Texas’ Recruiter of the Year by the Association of Migrant Educators of Texas.

Mrs. Morua has been at Rosita Valley Elementary School for six years and during her time there, she has fostered a strong and caring relationship with her campus’ migrant families and students. She constantly strives for the best resources and learning opportunities for her students. Her dedication to the program and professionalism has gained her not only the respect, but the trust of her peers and migratory families.

 It is with immense pride that Superintendent Samuel Mijares, Migrant Director Timoteo Chaires, and Rosita Valley Principal Cynthia Guedea congratulate Mrs. Morua for her award and dedication to her profession.

EPHS EAGLES SIGN THEIR LETTERS OF INTENT

Eagle Pass High School Seniors, Edward Mendoza and Sergio Lopez, sign their letters of intent on Wednesday, November 18, 2020. 

Edward Mendoza commits to attend and play for Texas State University in the Fall of 2021. 

His parents, EPHS Baseball Coach, Reynol Mendoza and EPHS Counselor, Tinna Mendoza, along with grandparents were present to witness the momentous occasion. 

Sergio Lopez signs with Alvin Community College. 

The future Dolphin is surrounded and fully supported by parents, Sergio and Melina Lopez as well as proud brother and former baseball Eagle, Salvador Lopez. 

The entire EPHS Family wish both these boys the best as they pursue their dreams doing what they love!

EAGLE PASS FFA LDE RESULTS

Despite all the obstacles that have been placed in front of them this school year, the Eagle Pass FFA students continue to move forward and compete. 

November 16th - 17th, students from WHS and EPHS competed in the Winter Garden District Leadership Development events in the first ever virtual contest. 

The students showed the Winterguard District that they are still a force to be reckoned! All 1st and 2nd place teams advanced to the Area X FFA Career Development events that will take place November 20, 23, & 24 virtually. 

The placements and contest descriptions are below.

3RD PLACE: Agriculture Advocacy

This contest is designed to inform the general public and consumers about the importance of the agriculture industry and how agriculture impacts human lives.

1ST PLACE: Agriculture Issues Forum

In this contest students research and analyze a current agriculture issue, create a portfolio and also develop and deliver a presentation that stresses both pros and cons of their selected issue.

3RD PLACE: Agriculture Skills Demonstration

In this contest members perform an actual demonstration of an agricultural skill including anything in the Agricultural Science and Technology Curriculum using effective public speaking and communication methods.  The topic for this team was Artificial Insemination of Cattle.

2ND PLACE: Freshman Chapter Conducting

  In this contest teams conduct a mock chapter meeting to demonstrate knowledge of basic parliamentary law and the use of correct parliamentary procedures.

1ST PLACE: Senior Chapter Conducting

This is the same contest as Freshman conducting however more advanced and more detailed.

3RD PLACE: Senior Creed Speaking

In this contest a member presents the FFA creed from memory and answers questions about its meaning and purpose

2ND PLACE: FFA Broadcasting

In this contest a team of 3 members presents an informative radio program covering 1 or more agricultural subjects that is current in nature and local in content

2ND PLACE: Public Relations

In this contest a team of 4 FFA members develops and presents a 5-8 minute program to inform a specified target audience regarding the Texas FFA and what it represents

2ND PLACE: Freshman Quiz

In this contest students take an exam testing knowledge of Parliamentary Procedure and FFA Knowledge including history, facts, business structure, leadership and programs.

1ST PLACE: Senior Quiz

This is an exam testing team members’ understanding of the FFA, Agriculture education, current events and parliamentary procedure.
