Sales Tax Holiday

One way that states, like Texas, help families save money during back to school shopping is to offer sales tax holidays. This "holiday" helps many of our EPISD families save on things they need for their kids heading back to school.  Supplies, clothes, and even electronics are just a few examples of items that are up for grabs.

This year’s Sales Tax Holiday is Aug. 7 - 9. As in previous years, the law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100 from sales and use taxes, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend.

Early Registration is just around the corner

EPHS Ranked as One of the BEST in the State

U.S. News & World Report announced the 2015 Best High School rankings, highlighting top-performing public schools on a state and national level.  The 2015 rankings include data on thousands of public high schools.  The Eagle Pass Independent School District is pleased to announce that Eagle Pass High School has been identified as one of the Best High Schools in the state of Texas.

To produce the 2015 Best High School Rankings, U.S. News and World Report teamed up with RTI International, a global nonprofit and social science research firm out of North Carolina who implemented the U.S. News comprehensive ranking methodology.

The list is based on several components, including the performance and success of all students, not just those that are college bound.  Key components include, measurable academic outcomes that showcase the success in educating its student body across a range of performance indicators, and the degree to which high schools prepare students for college by offering a collegelevel curriculum.

U.S. News differentiates high schools with gold, silver, and bronze medals, using gold medals to indicate the greatest level of college readiness.  U.S. News and RTI International reviewed over 29,070 public schools, 1,869 high schools from Texas, of which only 451 made their rankings.

Eagle Pass High School was awarded a National Silver Medal, and was ranked # 201 in the state and # 2,251 in the entire nation.

To be eligible for state and national ranking, a school must have been awarded a national gold or silver medal.  Of all the public high schools that were reviewed only 3% of the schools were awarded a gold medal, 10% a silver and 20% a bronze medal.   A total of 67% were not awarded at all.

“This is an awesome achievement and it wouldn’t have been possible without the continued commitment of our students, parents, teachers, staff, and school and district administration,” Eagle Pass High School Principal, Vale Moreno said. “Our mission is to promote academic excellence for our students, this ranking is one example of how this mission is being fulfilled daily at EPHS,” said Moreno.

EPISD Superintendent Gilberto Gonzalez added, “What an honor for Eagle Pass High School to earn this recognition. We have dedicated teachers and students who are making great things happen at all of our schools within the district.  This recognition serves as a true testament to that.”
