Since 1922, Fire Prevention Week (FPW) has been observed on the Sunday through Saturday period in which October 9th falls. The National Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The event is used to teach the importance of fire safety.
Every year during Fire Prevention Week the National Fire
Protection Association (NFPA) sounds the alarm about keeping our homes and our
kids safe from fire. October 4–10 take time to discuss the importance of fire
safety and the importance of having working smoke alarms in the bedroom.
