Saturday, December 1st, CC Winn Assistant Principal, Mr. Uriegas and CC Winn College Advisor, Mrs. Uriegas proudly represented their school and community at the annual San Antonio Rock & Roll 10K.
5K runs are a staple in the Uriegas' household, but this one sparked inspiration in the Maverick duo!
The race began with with a few inspirational words from Kathrine Switzer.
Katherine is the first woman to ever register and run the Boston Marathon in 1967. She also ran it in 2017, this marked the 50th anniversary of her historic run. She wore the same bib number as in 1967. Bib 261-261 Fearless, is now symbolic of her non-profit organization that strives to empower women through running.
13,700 women ran the 2017 race along her.
Also at the race was an energetic and determined 84 year old runner named Alberto Chavez.
After the race Mrs. Uriegas stated, " “You can do anything you set your mind to, your dreams are yours and no one else’s. So never give up on you and what you have set up for your life. After all individual success is measured by having lived a productive, giving, and inspirational life.”
Mr. and Mrs. Uriegas hopes that the lives of Katherine and Alberto spark passion and empower the youth of EPISD.
"Our running shoes have magic in them. The power to transform a bad day into a good day; frustration into speed; self-doubt into confidence; chocolate cake into muscle."
