WHS Sonneteers

During their sonnet unit, students in Mrs. Mercer’s English IV class at Winn High learned that a sonnet is far more complex than a 14 line poem.
After being exposed to the Spenserian, Petrarchan, and Shakespearean Sonnets, students were given the task to emulate a Shakespearean sonnet, iambic pentameter and all.
Counting syllables and creating the required rhyme scheme was by no means an easy assignment, and yet, Mrs. Mercer’s students truly outdid themselves.
Friday, December 7th, students presented their sonnets to their classmates.

Everyone was amazed at just how deep and touching each sonnet was.

Great job, Seniors!

Your sonnets were outstanding!
