Stallions Pop Up for Science

The students in Mrs. J. Estrada's 5th grade classroom at Armando Cerna  recently started their unit on Life Science.

They were assigned a project in which they had to create their own pop up book about biomes. Each student had to research the information for their books.

They authored and illustrated their own books as well!

Once they were completed with their projects, they were excited to read them to an audience.

They were guest readers to several 1st grade classrooms at the school.

The reviews from the audience were encouraging to the 5th graders to continue to do their best in all they do! Go Stallions!

Stallions Find Their Prey

The students in Mrs. J. Estrada's 5th grade classroom at Armando Cerna got to enjoy playing a game of prey and predator tag last week.

Their learning was conducted outdoors on a nice day!

The students have been learning about food chains and food webs throughout the week.

During this game, students were able to observe that the organism they were assigned had to "hunt" the organisms on their list of prey, but had to keep an eye for their many predators.

After their game was over, students were able to identify producers, consumers, herbivores, carnivores and omnivores as well.

Way to go Stallions!

Cerna Piggy Gram Champion Class

The students in Mrs J. Estrada's 5th grade class at Armando Cerna Elementary got to enjoy their prize for raising the most amount of donations at their school for the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Piggy Grams.

They got to enjoy watching a movie in the afternoon while eating pizza, pickles and popcorn.

Awesome job to these Stallions for showing their support to their county and city!

Congratulations to Mrs. Jessica Rey Ramon: February Teacher of the Month

Eagle Pass Independent School District has partnered with local businesses throughout our city to highlight the Teacher of the Month program, which honors educators who have made a difference in our community.  The program recognizes outstanding kindergarten, elementary, junior high, and high school teachers in Eagle Pass, Texas.

February's Teacher of the Month is none other than Armando Cerna Elementary School's Mrs. Jessica Ramon. Mrs. Ramon is a 3rd grade teacher and is going on her 10th year in the profession. She has taught several grade levels and continuously contributes to her campus and district in many ways. She has volunteered to coach activities such as cheer, basketball, baseball, UIL Ready Writing, and UIL Co-Coordinator. She's also worked after-school tutorials, Summer School, Bilingual and Migrant Programs, and grade-level chairperson. She has even served the district as a member of the District-Wide Educational Improvement Council.

Mrs. Ramon goes above and beyond for her students and EPISD. She encourages her students daily to independently  show their learning through various methods in order to have each student excel in their preference or dominant learning method. It is evident her students love her and her classroom environment. Mrs. Ramon is also a great team player, as she collaborates endlessly with her colleagues. She is always willing to share and what is so special about her is that her sharing isn't just at her campus, but throughout EPISD.

Mrs. Ramon is positive, caring, and has shown bravery as well! Not once but twice, Mrs. Ramon has saved a Stallion life! Once with the Heimlich Maneuver and most recently assisting in a medical emergency! For all these reasons and more, Mrs. Jessica Ramon is Teacher of the Month.

A segment will appear on iVision throughout the month of February detailing many more accomplishments of Mrs. Ramon.  This month she will also appear on community media, news publications and the EPISD website throughout February 2022  A teacher will be selected each month through May 2022 for a total of eight (8) honorees.  The “Teacher of the Month” will be chosen based on educational achievements in the classroom, community contributions and innovative programs and techniques used by the teacher. The “Teacher of the Month” will receive a certificate of recognition and will be featured on iVision, local media news, news publications and radio broadcasting.  Additionally, each “Teacher of the Month” will receive donations from local businesses.

Each T.O.M is receiving a “V.I.T (Very Important Teacher) Parking Pass”, a jean voucher for a month, Chick-fil-A Gift Card, and Class Cash to purchase class room supplies. Additionally, each “Teacher of the Month” will receive donations from local businesses.  Thank You Border Federal Credit Union, Ashley Furniture, Liberty Barbecue, EPISD Spirit Ambassadors, and Peter Piper Pizza.
