It is a great opportunity for District parents of children from elementary through high school to obtain relevant parenting information. There will be keynote presenters and a variety of  workshops. 

Congratulations Kristina Hernandez

The Eagle Pass Independent School District has partnered with local businesses throughout our city to highlight the Teacher of the Month program, which honors educators who have made a difference in our community.  The program recognizes outstanding kindergarten, elementary, junior high, and high school teachers in Eagle Pass, Texas.

Mrs. Kristina Hernandez, of Memorial Junior High has been selected as the “Teacher of the Month” for January 2016.  Her highly effective, caring, and enthusiastic attitude personify what it is to be an excellent educator.  Kristina is described by peers as being “passionate about education” and “compassionate towards her students.” Her dedication to her class and to her students is apparent the moment her student’s receive an enthusiastic “Hello!” as they enter the class all the way until they hear her say “have a nice day kiddos!”  The simple fact that she maintains this uplifting and enthusiastic mood throughout the day and within her class instruction is the true magic in her teaching.  Her students forget they are learning with her fun innovative lessons and the learning just happens automatically.  Her inherent passion towards her chosen profession as an educator SHINES through her personality, and that is how she makes concepts and skills come to life.  When she isn’t teaching her classes, you can find Mrs. Hernandez helping her fellow teachers.  Rookies and veteran educators alike, Mrs. Hernandez is always willing to lend a hand.  
This ELA-Co Department Chair is a true advocate for student success and well-being.  Great teachers like Kristina excite, motivate, and inspire.  It is those characteristics that have awarded her the title of “Teacher of the Month.”

A segment will appear on iVision throughout the month of January detailing many more accomplishments of Mrs. Hernandez.  This month she will also appear on community media, news publications and the EPISD website throughout January 2016.  A teacher will be selected each month through June 2015 for a total of nine (9) honorees.  The “Teacher of the Month” will be chosen based on educational achievements in the classroom, community contributions and innovative programs and techniques used by the teacher. The “Teacher of the Month” will receive a certificate of recognition and will be featured on iVision, local media news, news publications and radio broadcasting.  Additionally, each “Teacher of the Month” will receive donations from local businesses.

Each T.O.M is receiving a “V.I.T (Very Important Teacher) Parking Pass”, a jean voucher for a month, 20 free meals at the Campus Café, and Class Cash to purchase class room supplies. Additionally, each “Teacher of the Month” will receive donations from local businesses.  Thank You Ancira Ford–Eagle Pass, Ashley Furniture, and Bath and Body Works.

C.C. WINN Student Council is extremely proud of their past President, Miss Alexia Villarreal. She continues to represent the Mavericks fabulously at The University of Texas A&M International in Laredo. Currently, Alexia is in INDIA with 4 other college students. Alexia was selected for this experience based of her amazing talent and strong writing ability. 


Congratulations to this talented young woman who continues to aim high and take the world by storm.

Heroes for Schools

Texas has more than 5 million students in its public schools. That is 5 million young minds from about 5 years old to about 18 years old, and our state is attracting even more. Every year, our student population increases by about 85,000 additional students.

Those impressionable young people depend on the adults in Texas to provide for them. They need shelter and food and nurturing and an education. Who will step up to see that ALL the children not just the ones in our own households have what they need in our schools?

In Texas, more than 7,200 generous people have offered to help. These are people who receive no pay for their dedicated efforts. These are people who not only volunteer but go through the process of standing up for public education. They are locally elected school board members. They are your neighbors, and they care.

These public servants donate their time and talents to ensure that ALL our children have the best public schools we can provide. These people sit through meetings, read detailed reports, listen to parents’ concerns, and do the hard work to benefit the students and the community at large. And make no mistake about it, the whole community benefits from good schools.

Each January, we pause in our regular activities to say thank you to these dedicated volunteers. We appreciate their generous sharing of time and energy on behalf of our children. Local school board members are truly heroes for our schools. Join me in celebrating School Board Recognition Month in January by expressing your support and gratitude to our school trustees. We are indebted to them.
