At the January, 2016 board meeting, the EPISD
School Board approved the hiring of Mr. John Mack Cox as the new Principal of
Eagle Pass High School and Ms. Veronica Chacon as the new Principal of
Maude Mae Kirchner Elementary School.
Below is information on Mr. Cox and Ms. Chacon:
Mr. John Mack Cox
Mr. Cox returns to EPISD from the Uvalde School District,
where he has been serving as the Vice Principal at Uvalde High School and
Principal for the district’s DAEP facility for the past two years. Prior
to that, Mr. Cox served EPISD as a High School science teacher for ten years
and as assistant principal at Eagle Pass High School for seven years and at
central office as the Director of the EPISD Science program for two years.
He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and a Master’s degree in School
Administration. Mr. Cox’s past experience and twenty one years in
increasingly responsible positions has prepared him for the role of Principal
of Eagle Pass High School.
Mr. Cox is well-versed in fostering a positive school
climate and relationships with parents and the community. His genuine
concern for student well-being has garnered trust from both students and
parents. He interacts with students in a firm, fair, considerate,
and consistent manner, and his relationships with staff, students, and parents are
marked by mutual respect.

Ms. Veronica Chacon
Ms. Chacon has 20 years of working experience
with the Eagle Pass Independent School District. She began her employment
as a paraprofessional in the Business and Finance Department while completing
her Bachelor’s Degree. In addition to her teaching position of nine
years, Ms. Chacon most recently has been and Instructional Officer
for the past seven years at Rosita Valley Literacy Academy. During her
term as instructional Officer, Ms. Chacon has demonstrated her ability to
be a consistent, flexible, and collaborative leader and has continuously
provided support for teachers.
Ms. Chacon is well-versed in addressing elementary school
students’ academic, physical, and emotional needs. She collaborates
with her peers to develop realistic and achievable goals for students,
communicating information to students and their families in a positive, clear,
and articulate manner.

initiative is to provide leadership to build a positive learning environment.
