Congratulations to Ms. Larissa Flores: January Teacher of the Month

Eagle Pass Independent School District has partnered with local businesses throughout our city to highlight the Teacher of the Month program, which honors educators who have made a difference in our community.  The program recognizes outstanding kindergarten, elementary, junior high, and high school teachers in Eagle Pass, Texas.

January's Teacher of the Month is none other than Eagle Pass Junior High School's, Ms. Larissa Flores. Ms. Flores is a passionate, dedicated teacher who not only provides her students with innovative, challenging lessons, but she also sets high expectations. She aids her students' achievement of these standards through consistent communication, positive motivation, and excellent rapport. Her strong interpersonal skills are evident in how she interacts with her peers and students alike. She bonds with everyone, and motivates the school as a whole each and every day.

Ms. Flores skills have always been on display, but they truly came to light when she stepped up and led her campus' English Department into a new technology-based framework. She created a technological framework of the resources that are needed and has successfully equipped her co-workers with her knowledge. It is evident that her skills are definitely needed as she has been sought out for help as she has become a master teacher for Clever, I-Station, HMH, and Google Classroom. The qualities of her teaching methods are impeccable and beneficial not only to her own students, but all students that attend EPJH.

Student understanding and comprehension is key to Ms. Flores as she molds her teaching style based on need and personalities. Ego goes out the door and amazingly adapts to what is best for her students. She demonstrates to her students a variety of strategies that give them the keys to succeed in not only her class, but all their classes. For all these reasons and more, Ms. Larissa Flores is Teacher of the Month.

A segment will appear on iVision throughout the month of March detailing many more accomplishments of Ms. Flores.  This month she will also appear on community media, news publications and the EPISD website throughout March 2021.  A teacher will be selected each month through May 2021 for a total of eight (8) honorees.  The “Teacher of the Month” will be chosen based on educational achievements in the classroom, community contributions and innovative programs and techniques used by the teacher. The “Teacher of the Month” will receive a certificate of recognition and will be featured on iVision, local media news, news publications and radio broadcasting.  Additionally, each “Teacher of the Month” will receive donations from local businesses.

Each T.O.M is receiving a “V.I.T (Very Important Teacher) Parking Pass”, a jean voucher for a month, Whataburger Gift Card, and Class Cash to purchase class room supplies. Additionally, each “Teacher of the Month” will receive donations from local businesses.  Thank You Border Federal Credit Union, Ashley Furniture, 1212 Chisolm Group, EPISD Spirit Ambassadors, and Peter Piper Pizza.

Congratulations to Mrs. Veronica Yzquerido: December Teacher of the Month

December's Teacher of the Month is none other than Robert E. Lee Elementary School's, Mrs. Veronica Yzquierdo. Since her arrival at Robert E. Lee, Mrs. Yzquierdo has volunteered to collaborate with multiple grade levels in motivating the students. She has participated with her grade level and other grade levels to make a combination bulletin board to recognize students through various intrinsic and extrinsic incentives. She offers any assistance needed academically, professional, and is always showing that she is in a good mood. There are times that she does random acts of kindness with students and staff alike. She is an example of a true professional.

She arrives to work early and helps out any one in need and goes about her schedule.  In addition to coming in early, Mrs. Yzquierdo leaves late as she works to refine technology based activities. She works hard to encourage the hour of code throughout the year and continuously replaces her bulletin board to reflect the current events or events of interest that are connected to real life. She dedicates her time to creating new ways to engage her students. For example, her lessons are full of TPR activities. Mrs. Yzquierdo is a tremendous resource that shares her knowledge with her fellow teachers, as the success of ALL students is her truest pursuit.

Mrs. Yzquierdo is the first to promote technology and any district initiatives. She has a passion for helping others succeed and consistently promotes proper behavior. She participates in SBDM, UIL, and iVision activities to promote campus and district initiatives. She promotes parent involvement by conferencing with parents during and after school hours. She uses all resources in her realm to make contact to ensure student success. Mrs. Yzquierdo's infectious personality and desire for students to achieve all they can has swept the halls of her campus and for all these reasons and more, Mrs. Veronica Yzquierdo is Teacher of the Month.

A segment will appear on iVision throughout the month of March detailing many more accomplishments of Mrs. Yzquierdo.
