State FFA Convention

On July 14th the Eagle Pass FFA Chapter traveled to Fort Worth to the 86th Annual Texas FFA Convention. Students competed at the state level in speaking competitions, compete in a talent competition, received their Lone Star FFA Degree, and serve as voting delegates for our chapter. Alexis De La Garza competed in the State Soil Stewardship in where she prepared 5-7 minute speech over a topic related to soil and placed 9th. Karina Garcia competed in the Spanish Creed Speaking where she competed against 48 other students from around the state of Texas and placed 3rd. Dustin De La Garza had an outstanding performance in front of 8,000 people but came short with votes. Dakota Betancourt, Larissa Buentello, and Bertha Alicia Torres all received their Lone Star FFA Degrees.
Congratulations to these fine individuals, the FFA program, and of course the CTE program for supporting the students of EPISD.

True Act of Kindness

In an act of kindness Mrs.Renteria of Memorial Junior High took it upon herself to formulate an online auction to collect money for one of her co workers.  During this time of stress  Mrs.T. Irracheta; 7th grade Math teacher and her family find themselves facing  an adverse situation.  One of her nine month old twins is in need of a heart transplant.

In an admirable gesture, Mrs. Reniria  took it upon herself to start an online auction and be able to collect sufficient fund to help the cause.  Over $1, 400 dollars is to be donated to Baby Lexy Irracheta.

Memorial Junior High has showcased True Staff Support and for that we CONGRATULATE Mrs. Renteria and her true example of care and consideration!

Congratulations, Mr. Mendoza!

CONGRATULATIONS MR. MENDOZA
It is with a heavy heart that Memorial Junior High  says farewell to Mr. Mendoza, Social Studies teacher and department chair.  Mr. Mendoza served Memorial Junior High for 20 years! He was and will continue to be remembered on his campus as symbol of loyalty, honesty, friendship, go-getter, mentor, and leader.

He leaves the MJH campus to continue his loyal service to our community at C.C. Winn High School in where he will be administering the position of Assistant Principal.

LIVE the DREAM Tour visits CC WINN

Voted North America's #1 Youth Motivational Comedian two years in a row, David Edward Garcia made a visit to C.C. Winn High on September 24 to share his message of hope and motivation.  He delivered his message with a motivational comedy routine that has dazzled and moved audiences, from elementary schools to high schools and college campuses around the globe.

With, what he states as an "nomadic upbringing," he began traveling internationally as a teen and this early exposure to different cultures earned him many valuable insights that he shares from the stage.  He is a YouTube legend, elite-level athlete, and for many border students, the ultimate hero.
The Mighty Maverick Senior class enjoyed  the hour long presentation  from his LiveTheDreamTour.  The tour itself includes 10,000 students, 1,254 miles, 14 shows, 5 days, 1border, 1 tour, 1 Dream!

Within the presentation David empathized with students who face border challenges because he was once considered an "at-risk student" living along the Texas-Mexico border himself before defying the odds and graduating with a bachelor's degree and then continuing his education and earning his Master’s Degree.  David is taking his message of hope and sharing it with the students across the border.

September is Attendance Awareness Month

September for Attendance Awareness Month! The Eagle Pass Independent School District wants to be certain that all students are in their classrooms on a daily basis.

Celebrated for the first time in September 2013, Attendance Awareness Month is a nationwide event recognizing the connection between school attendance and academic achievement.

Together, as a district lets  promote the value of good attendance but also to take concrete steps toward reducing chronic absence with in our classrooms.

Motivating students after a long summer is not an easy task. A lot of children may never be as enthusiastic about school as you would like, but there are some things you can do to get your students to at least show some interest in being "PRESENT" in their education.

1. Be Enthusiastic
Hearing you have an interest in what they have done during the day may be all the motivation your student needs.  Also ask questions to find out what your students likes and dislikes about school. There may be something going on at school that is causing your them to be unmotivated. It may be a another teacher who is giving them a hard time or a fall-out with a friend. If you are able to help uncover the problem, your child they be more eager to go to school

2. Remind them of the Benefits of Education
Take time to explain to your unenthusiastic student the benefits of getting an education and how that will affect their future. Describe the different careers that will be available to them when they are educated versus when they are not, and the different salaries they can earn. A reality check can do wonders for motivation.

3. Celebrate Achievements
Letting your students know you are proud of what they accomplish in your classes can be a huge motivator. Even if it is just a " Good Job!"

Say goodbye to summer EPISD!
