Eagle Pass Independent School District has partnered with local businesses throughout our city to highlight the Teacher of the Month program, which honors educators who have made a difference in our community. The program recognizes outstanding kindergarten, elementary, junior high, and high school teachers in Eagle Pass, Texas.
December's Teacher of the Month is none other than Eagle Pass High School's, Mrs. Desma Rodriguez. Mrs. Rodriguez is someone who gives students what is needed on a daily basis. She wears all hats every day and does so with a huge smile. If you happens to walk the halls of EPHS, you will see that there is always a friendly hug or handshake waiting to greet you in room B-04. She is forever ready to love, teach, and more than anything make her students feel welcomed. The aura of her classroom is so inviting that students are excited to walk into such a positive environment.
Mrs. Rodriguez helps shed a bright light on students' path to the future. She makes them feel worthy so that each of them knows that they have a purpose in life. She not only teaches the curriculum and content of English IV, but she teaches students about life. She shares experiences with them, creates a special bond so that they feel comfortable in her classroom. Mrs. Rodriguez is real, she wants her students to succeed and become the best that each one of them can be. She is truly selfless and her love for teaching is evident. She inspires students, colleagues, and all that step foot into her classroom.
She does not allow outside forces enter into her room and perseveres through everything she puts in front of herself. She has used her life experiences to teach her colleagues and students about happiness and life. The way she leads the English Department down a positive path is remarkable and with great impact. She has shown her love for teaching by being present, by continuing to smile and teach daily lessons. Her classroom walls are filled with echoes of Beowulf, Shakespeare, Research Skills, and everything that embodies British Literature.
Mrs. Rodriguez always takes extra time to make each students feel special, whether it's by having a comfortable classroom for them or writing positive quotes throughout her room. If you come out of her classroom appreciating literature, she has sparked you interest.
Mrs. Desma Rodriguez is a powerful teacher with a nurturing heart and her peers and students are fortunate to have her.
For all these reasons and more, Mrs. Rodriguez is Teacher of the Month.
