Congratulations to Ms. Edna Maldonado: November Teacher of the Month

Eagle Pass Independent School District has partnered with local businesses throughout our city to highlight the Teacher of the Month program, which honors educators who have made a difference in our community.  The program recognizes outstanding kindergarten, elementary, junior high, and high school teachers in Eagle Pass, Texas.

November's Teacher of the Month is none other than Benavides Heights Elementary School's, Ms. Edna Maldonado. As matriarch of the Bulldog Family for the past 43 years, Ms. Maldonado is the epitome of a dedicated and doting teachers. She has spent the majority of her extensive career in education teaching 1st grade. Understanding the vital importance of a solid foundation in literacy, she uses a variety of best teaching practices to ensure each student's needs are being met. As a life-long advocate of literacy centers, Miss Maldonado's classroom is full of energy and delightful sounds of learning in progress. She incorporates arts and crafts, music, and educational playtime which fosters language development for all learners alike. Miss Maldonado is also not afraid to change with the times as she has embraced the transition of traditional-style learning to more technology-driven instruction and incorporates various lessons across the content areas to ensure all students experience a plethora of instructional styles.

In January of the previous school year, Miss Maldonado's class was only one of two from the district to average with the highest lessons passed in Imagine Math-Blueprint Program for 1st and 2nd grade. This is just one small example of how Miss Maldonado strives for a classroom environment that fosters successful learners. She thoroughly sees the importance of building a strong Bulldog family unit with her students which transcends beyond the classroom. She also does not hesitate to reach for her pocket book if she sees a child in need because at the end of the day her students' well-being in just as important as their educational needs.

In addition to teaching 1st grade, Miss Maldonado was the go-to girl for all extra-curriculars on campus. She was the cheerleading sponsor for many years, UIL Campus Coordinator, PTO Officer, Reading Teacher, and Intermediate Literacy Specialist. Regardless of the title or duty, Miss Maldonado never falters and her is a constant in Bulldog Country with her heart of gold and million-dollar smile. For all these reasons and more, Ms. Edna Maldonado is Teacher of the Month.
