Congratulations to Mrs. Sonia Dobey: March Teacher of the Month

Eagle Pass Independent School District has partnered with local businesses throughout our city to highlight the Teacher of the Month program, which honors educators who have made a difference in our community.  The program recognizes outstanding kindergarten, elementary, junior high, and high school teachers in Eagle Pass, Texas.

March's Teacher of the Month is none other than Kennedy Hall's Mrs. Sonia Dobey. Mrs. Dobey consistently demonstrates high ideals, professionalism, and the constant ability to help students become the best they can be. Her class lessons and activities are always bristling with energy.

Mrs. Dobey is not afraid to go the extra mile for her students and that was seen in full this school year! With students returning to 100% in-person instruction this year, Mrs. Dobey saw the need for an air purifier. She signed her campus up and campaigned hard for the "Airpura Back to School" online contest and of course her determination brought home a big win for her students and campus! This of course is not the only thing Mrs. Dobey has signed up her students for, she researches and networks with local restaurants to get prizes for her students through their reward programs. She makes sure to celebrate her students reaching all academic milestones, big or small.

Mrs. Dobey takes in active interest in her campus and students, which is seen in her volunteer work with the Kennedy Hall PTO. Her students are important to her and she makes them feel that importance! She constantly asks them about their interests, hobbies, and extracurricular activities. The rapport she has built with these young kindergarten students is awe inspiring as you can see the level of respect and trust from both parties. For all these reasons and more, Mrs. Sonia Dobey is Teacher of the Month.

A segment will appear on iVision throughout the month of February detailing many more accomplishments of Mrs. Dobey.  This month she will also appear on community media, news publications and the EPISD website throughout March 2022  A teacher will be selected each month through May 2022 for a total of eight (8) honorees.  The “Teacher of the Month” will be chosen based on educational achievements in the classroom, community contributions and innovative programs and techniques used by the teacher. The “Teacher of the Month” will receive a certificate of recognition and will be featured on iVision, local media news, news publications and radio broadcasting.  Additionally, each “Teacher of the Month” will receive donations from local businesses.

Each T.O.M is receiving a “V.I.T (Very Important Teacher) Parking Pass”, a jean voucher for a month, Chick-fil-A Gift Card, and Class Cash to purchase class room supplies. Additionally, each “Teacher of the Month” will receive donations from local businesses.  Thank You Border Federal Credit Union, Ashley Furniture, Liberty Barbecue, EPISD Spirit Ambassadors, and Peter Piper Pizza.
