EPHS volleyball team has qualified for the UIL state playoffs as the fourth place team from district 29-6A.

The first round playoff information is as follows:

-Day/Date is Tuesday, November 4, 2014

-Time is 6 PM

Maverick Debate competes at “Tournament That Teaches”

On Saturday, October 25^th, the Maverick Debate Team traveled to Burnet High School to compete in the “Tournament That Teaches”.  Twenty nine participating schools competed in seven speaking events.  Paola Garcia-Zuazua competed in Varsity Lincoln Douglas Debate; Luis Contreras & Adriana Ibarra competed in Novice Lincoln Douglas Debate; the team of Adrian Gonzalez/Issac Turribate competed in Varsity Cross Examination Debate; the teams of Francisco Becerril/Alberto DeLaCruz & Eric Chavarria/Juan Ortiz competed in Novice Cross Examination Debate, and Stephanie Martinez competed in Informative Speaking.

Placing first in Novice Cross-Examination Debate was the Maverick team of Francisco Becerril and Alberto De La Cruz.  Placing third in Novice Informative Speaking was Stephanie Martinez. 
 
Congratulations go out to the whole team for a good performance at a very competitive event.

EPISD College Night

The annual EPISD College Night will be held Tuesday, Nov. 4 from 6:00-8:00 pm drawing colleges and universities from across the nation.
 Hundreds of EPISD students are expected to attend the event which will be held in the Gym at C.C. Winn High School off of Foster Maldonado.

College Night is an excellent event that provides students and their parents the opportunity to become more familiar with institutions of higher education from all over Texas and the nation. Face-to-face interaction with representatives from various colleges and universities is informative for parents and a valuable experience for our students when faced with making important decisions about their future.
It allows students to plan accordingly for their future and prepare for what lies ahead.

It is suggested that students arrive early and should remember to:

• Bring a pencil and paper
• Decide which colleges to visit before arrival
• Think about questions for the college representative ahead of time
• Ask for the college representative's business card

SCHOOL BUS SAFETY WEEK

Eagle Pass Independent School District celebrates National School Bus Safety Week on October 20-24, 2014. Schools and safety advocates throughout the Maverick County are using the week as an opportunity to highlight the importance of school bus safety. This week, The Texas Department Public Safety has been working side by side with our School District bus drivers to ensure public vigilance within our school zones. Motorists should be reminded of their important role in stopping and exercising care and patience when a school bus flashes its red lights and extends its stop arm. 

For years, school buses have provided safe access to learning for Eagle Pass school children through secure and dependable transportation to schools. School Bus Safety Week reminds students, parents and motorists of their important role in school bus safety

More than 5000 students ride the school bus in Eagle Pass, Texas each day, with more than 26 million school children transported in 480,000 school buses nationwide.

EPISD October Teacher of the Month

EPISD Teacher of the Month

The Eagle Pass Independent School District has partnered with local businesses throughout our city to highlight the Teacher of the Month program, which honors educators who have made a difference in our community.  The program recognizes outstanding kindergarten, elementary, junior high, and high school teachers in Eagle Pass, Texas.

Mrs. Graciela Villalobos has been inspiring students in our District for over twenty five years. This Veteran educator was named the EPISD October “Teacher of the Month.”  Graciela began her teaching career as an instructional assistant where she worked hand and hand for over twenty years with numerous educators. Gaining experience and working with children of the district, she continued her professional educational career and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. For the last six years this “Kennedy Favorite” has been a highly requested Pre-Kindergarten teacher. She is compassionate, understanding, and loving towards all of her students and her Kennedy family.  Her style of teaching incorporates the use of technology and engaging manipulatives which stimulate little learner’s minds.  She is the perfect example of a teacher who teaches from the heart.  It is for all these reasons that she is an outstanding Teacher and the Teacher of the Month for October.   

A segment will appear on iVision throughout the month of October detailing many more accomplishments of Mrs. Villalobos.  This month he will also appear on community media, news publications and the EPISD website throughout October 2014.

A teacher will be selected each month through June 2015 for a total of nine (9) honorees.  The “Teacher of the Month” will be chosen based on educational achievements in the classroom, community contributions and innovativeness of the program/techniques used by the teacher. The “Teacher of the Month” will receive a certificate of recognition and will be featured on iVision, local media news, news publications and radio broadcasting. Additionally, each “Teacher of the Month” will receive donations from local businesses.
