The Eagle Pass Independent School District has partnered with local businesses throughout our city to highlight the Teacher of the Month program, which honors educators who have made a difference in our community. The program recognizes outstanding kindergarten, elementary, junior high, and high school teachers in Eagle Pass, Texas.
Mrs. Priscilla Escobar, of Eagle Pass High School, has been selected as the “Teacher of the Month” for May 2015. Mrs. Escobar demonstrates every characteristic of an accomplished veteran educator. In her English class, the act of learning takes on an entirely new form, new meaning, and unexpected direction. For her students, leaning is always an adventure. Their eyes are focused, their minds are active, and their hands are spring- loaded, ready to shoot above their head so they can offer an answer.
In this age of accountability, with the focus on numbers, percentages, and data, Mrs. Escobar is still in the business of imparting knowledge for life. She teaches with real passion from the heart, with integrity, and above all a real concern for the success of her students. Mrs. Escobar teaches with purpose. Her techniques exemplify the concept of learner-centered instruction, and transcend it, to make learning meaningful and substantive for her students. She expects nothing less than greatness from all of her students. From the Pre-AP learner to her regular course students; all of them participate, strive, and succeed, taking ownership of their own success as learners.
Mrs. Escobar’s students leave her class knowing that they can learn, and for some of them, that means much more than a passing grade. It is the kind of knowledge that can change a life. Mrs. Escobar stands as a bright shining example of the best our school district has to offer. It is because of all these reasons Mrs. Escobar is our “Teacher of the Month” for May 2015.
A segment will appear on iVision throughout the month of May detailing many more accomplishments of Mrs. Priscilla Escobar. This month she will also appear on community media, news publications and the EPISD website throughout May 2015.
A teacher will be selected each month through June 2015 for a total of nine (9) honorees. The “Teacher of the Month” will be chosen based on educational achievements in the classroom, community contributions and innovativeness of the program/techniques used by the teacher. The “Teacher of the Month” will receive a certificate of recognition and will be featured on iVision, local media news, news publications and radio broadcasting.
Additionally, each “Teacher of the Month” will receive donations from local businesses. This month we would like to thank our sponsors, Chili’s, Ancira Ford – Eagle Pass and Ashley Furniture.
