CC Winn Student
Council officers have been busy this summer helping around the community with
various events and kicking off their new year as the head of their school’s
student government.
For the fourth year in
a row, the StuCo officers attended the annual Back to School Health Fair held
at the ICT center this past Saturday. Officers oversaw two booths that
were the main focus of Teens in the Driver’s Seat and D.A.S.H (Drug, Alcohol,
Safety, and Health) no smoking programs. Students and Miss Fiesta Patrias,
Carolina Perez, handed out flyers, pamphlets, stickers, etc., and talked to our
fellow community members about their projects, which included tips on how to be
safe on the road.
Winn StuCo also
distributed their safety material along with candies earlier this month on the
morning of July 4th as they walked the streets of downtown Eagle
Pass, participating in the annual 4th of July parade. They gave out these
D.A.S.H items to the fellow spectators of our community and even Toribio and
Daniela Rodriguez, Miss Eagle Pass, enjoyed the celebration by riding along in
a truck adorned with red, white, and blue decorations showing off that Maverick
pride.
Winn StuCo officers
also kicked off their summer by participating with this year’s Flag Ceremony
which took place on June 14th outside of City Hall. Students helped
with the flags to honor to our country and the many men and women fighting for
our freedom. Fellow Eagle Pass Veterans were present at the ceremony and shared
a few words with our community as StuCo member, Amanda Lee Martin, sang the
national anthem.
Now, as the summer
slowly comes to an end, Winn StuCo urges you to stay hydrated at all times,
wear sunscreen during outside activities, whether you are outside doing
community service or enjoying a BBQ with family and friends, try to stay in the
shade as much as possible.
