All American Baseball Youth

Luis Alvarado, 6th grader at Benavides Heights Elementary, participated over the Christmas and New Year's holidays in the BY All American Games in Round Rock, Texas, which is an invite-only event and features hundreds of outstanding players from around the nation. Participants can expect to be placed in the graduating class during pool and bracket elimination play. Every player goes through Baseball Youth skill measurement to see how their numbers match up with their classmates. Luis placed 1st place in the vertical leaping ability, 2nd place in the 60 yard dash with a time of 8.3 seconds losing to 1st place by .30 of a second.
He entered the home run derby where players had 30 seconds to hit with their bat as many home runs as possible with each home run worth 1 point, then use a Dirty South Bat for the remaining 30 seconds with each home run worth 2 points. He accumulated 18 points placing him in 8th place.
His team ended up earning the 3rd place spot in the games, bringing home the All American Games.
A day after the event Luis was contacted that he was chosen to become part of the Youth Elite National Teams to play in 6 Nation Tournaments in the following cities, Las Vegas, Dallas-Fort Worth, Vicksburg MS, Emerson GA, Pigeon Forge TN, Elizabethtown KY, and Disney World Florida.
And if that was not exciting enough, Luis was invited to enroll in a tryout for the South Texas Sliders Baseball Club, same club where Tres Barrera, from the Washington Nations, our current World Series Champion played during his youth. Luis competed for a pitching and catching positions in which he earned both key spots in the team.
