Eagle Pass Independent School District has partnered with local businesses throughout our city to highlight the Teacher of the Month program, which honors educators who have made a difference in our community. The program recognizes outstanding kindergarten, elementary, junior high, and high school teachers in Eagle Pass, Texas.
January's Teacher of the Month is none other than Henry B. Gonzalez Elementary School's, Ms. Edelmira Rivera. Ms. Rivera is an outstanding teacher for many reasons. She is a very positive, compassionate, and generous person. Everything that she does in the classroom and outside the classrrom is for other people. to start with, she is Henry B. Gonzalez' UIL Coordinator, works after school tutorial and on her free time she works with her church community.
She always has a big smile on her face when she comes to work and you can find her giving her hugs to every single one of her students to welcome them to a new day. Ms. Rivera works with each of her students to help them acquire a high self-esteem, acheive good reading skills, and sets high expectations for all of them. Her positive attitude helps her get to know each of her students and know what they each need. She goes above and beyond not just to help her students, but her colleagues as well.
Ms. Rivera is always well prepared and has effective classroom instruction. She engages her students into her lessons and goes out of her way to motivate them to learn. You can always find her searching for new ways to implement in her teaching and modeling those new techniques and strategies to her colleagues. Her communication with parents is excellent and she always makes herself available to help parents with questions or concerns about their child.
Ms. Rivera has a strong sense of value, integrity, and professionalism. For all these reasons and more, Ms. Rivera is Teacher of the Month.
