Eric Herrera (EPHS Class of 2016) has recently advanced in
the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Clinical competition in
Biomedical Laboratory Science. It is his fourth consecutive year advancing as a
state finalist representing Career & Technical Education/EPISD and Texas’s
first district at state convention this year in Galveston, TX. The academic
competition will consist of conducting controlled medical procedures and
experiments in a laboratory as well as hands-on medical knowledge such as
cloning and production of drug products.
Furthermore, Eric also represented Career & Technical Education/EPISD and Eagle Pass FFA at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo where he presented a research project to doctors and professors from UT Austin, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech on the possibility of transplanting tissues from animals and using it to regrow human organs in efforts to cure diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, childhood blindness, and paralysis arising from spinal cord injuries, all currently incurable by today’s technology. Eric was reserve champion and was awarded a $10,000 scholarship he will use to pursue a degree in Neuroscience pre-med. Career & Technical Education/EPISD-CTE Director, Ana L.
