The poetry of the Elizabethan Era came alive as Mrs. Mercer’s English IV Classes at C. C. Winn High School studied and analyzed the sonnets of Edmund Spenser, Sir Philip Sidney, and William Shakespeare.
The students read and analyzed the sonnets and as a result were able to identify the various elements and techniques used by the poets.
In addition, they used their creativity and poetic skills to emulate the Shakespearean sonnet by producing their very own poem.
Students diligently worked to produce a 14 line poem in iambic pentameter and following the Shakespearean rhyme scheme.
At first, the students may have felt a bit overwhelmed but were greatly satisfied with their final product.
Thursday, November 17th, the Mavs were proud to present their very own sonnets!
Way to go Mavs!
