EPISD Continues Off Better Hearing and Speech Month

Wednesday, May 8th, the EPISD communication leaders shared encouraging words and learned that there are varying degrees of deafness.
There are those who are “hard of hearing,” “profoundly deaf,”or “completely deaf".
Many individuals with a hearing loss wear hearing aids. Some students have a cochlear implant to help them hear.
Some students with hearing challenges are able to read lips and understand what you’re saying.
Yet, others communicate with sign language.
When communicating with someone with a hearing loss remember to get the other person’s attention and make eye contact.
Use a normal voice and tone.
