Over the Christmas holidays and the month of January, EPHS Student Council collected over 300 toys that were donated to the Winter Garden Women's Shelter. These toys will remain in the community and be gifted to the children of victims of domestic violence in a Dia del NiƱo celebration on April 30th.
According to director, Carolina Gonzalez, the incidence of domestic violence is on the rise in Maverick County. She added that teen dating violence is also very common. This includes physical, psychological, and sexual abuse, as well as harassment or stalking of any person ages 12 to 18. If anyone is suffering from either domestic violence or teen dating violence they should contact the women's shelter at (830) 758-5188 from 8 am to 5 pm. There is also a 24 hour hotline for assistance at 1-800-363-9441.
The collection of these toys would not have been possible if not for the assistance of the student members of the Senior Class, the Sophomore Class, and the Freshmen class of EPHS. Special thanks to all the class sponsors as well.
