On April 11th and 12th, Physical Education teachers at Eagle Pass High School administered the FitnessGram to all students enrolled in a P.E. class.
FitnessGram is the first "student fitness report card." It was developed by the Cooper Institute in an effort to improve school physical education programs and children's health. It is a health-related youth fitness assessment that utilizes evidence-based standards to measure the level of fitness needed for good overall health.
TEA requires the fitness levels of all public school students who are in grades 3-12 and enrolled in a physical education course be assessed at least once annually. The FitnessGram has been selected by TEA to be the assessment tool to be used by all school districts. School districts are required to submit the results of the assessment each year through FitnessGram software.
Mrs. Denise Galarza, EPHS physical education teacher states, "It's an essential tool for assessing the overall fitness levels of students as it pertains to their height, weight, and gender. We have a criteria to meet with the state standards and FitnessGram is the instrument we use for assessment. These numbers are then submitted to the State and we get scored as to where we are in the standards for fitness. It's like a "physical EOC" for PE, if you will."
Way to work out the mind and body Eagles! Great Job!
