Eagle Pass Independent School District has partnered with local businesses throughout our city to highlight the Teacher of the Month program, which honors educators who have made a difference in our community. The program recognizes outstanding kindergarten, elementary, junior high, and high school teachers in Eagle Pass, Texas.
Mrs. Linda Fernandez - Cabanas has been a part of the ECC family for close to ten years. Throughout these years she has been an outstanding Kindergarten teacher. She also has played an important role in improving the quality of instruction at ECC and remained a valuable asset to the district.
Mrs. Cabanas is an outstanding planner and highly effective in motivator. She seeks professional growth aside from the basic district requirements and implements only the most effective research based ideas into her lesson plans. Her excellence in subject knowledge is applied consistently to challenge and inspire students with current technology resources and make a marked contribution to the quality of learning, as she precisely targets concepts and skills. One of the programs she has used and is very successful with is the ESGI.
Teaching for Mrs. Cabanas is a form of Art. She makes learning fun and inviting, but challenging as well. She is highly motivating and always has a positive attitude. She is acutely aware of her students' capabilities, progress and prior knowledge and uses this information to plan effectively and build on their own individual needs. Mrs. Cabanas sets aside time for quality dialogue with students, parents, and colleagues and uses feedback meaningfully to improve student results, not only for her classroom, but for the campus as well.
Mrs. Cabanas is supportive of students, colleagues and staff. This is evident as she volunteers to mentor first year teachers, assist experienced teachers with new district adopted programs, and participate with current school activity, as well as community events. She annually holds fundraisers to raise monies for scholarships for graduating Seniors. This year, she has also been ECC's Spirit Committee Head Chairperson thus ensuring that ECC is recognized for the many activities that it does throughout the year.
Mrs. Cabanas is not a dedicated and compassionate teacher, but a determined educator working to make a difference in the lives of her students. For these reasons and more, Mrs. Linda Cabanas is your May Teacher of the Month.
A segment will appear on iVision throughout the month of May detailing many more accomplishments of Mrs. Cabanas. This month she will also appear on community media, news publications and the EPISD website throughout May 2017. A teacher will be selected each month through May 2017 for a total of eight (8) honorees. The “Teacher of the Month” will be chosen based on educational achievements in the classroom, community contributions and innovative programs and techniques used by the teacher. The “Teacher of the Month” will receive a certificate of recognition and will be featured on iVision, local media news, news publications and radio broadcasting. Additionally, each “Teacher of the Month” will receive donations from local businesses.
Each T.O.M is receiving a “V.I.T (Very Important Teacher) Parking Pass”, a jean voucher for a month, 20 free meals at the Campus CafĂ©, and Class Cash to purchase class room supplies.
