EPHS StuCo brings Awareness to World Suicide Prevention Day

Join Eagle Pass High School's Student Council on Tuesday, September 10th as they bring awareness to World Suicide Prevention Day by wearing turquoise or purple.
EPHS StuCo is hosting a series of activities and announcements during National Suicide Prevention Week September 9 - 14, 2019.

EPHS hopes to raise awareness of the risks of suicide and to support suicide prevention activities.

Every year, suicide is among the top 20 leading causes of death globally for people of all ages.

It is responsible for over 800,000 deaths, which equates to one suicide every 40 seconds.
Every life lost represents someone's partner, child, parent, friend or colleague.
For each suicide approximately 135 people suffer intense grief or are otherwise affected. This amounts to 108 million people per year who are profoundly impacted by suicidal behavior.
Suicidal behavior includes suicide, and also encompasses suicidal ideation and suicide attempts.

For every suicide, 25 people make a suicide attempt and many more have serious thoughts of suicide.

Let's take the time, not only during this week, but ALWAYS, to reach out to those around us who may need our help. Put your cell phone down and look around you, is there someone in need of a friend; in need of a listening ear; a compassionate heart? Take the time to reach out and make a difference in someone's life.
