The Eagle Pass Independent School District has partnered with local businesses throughout our city to highlight the Teacher of the Month program, which honors educators who have made a difference in our community. The program recognizes outstanding kindergarten, elementary, junior high, and high school teachers in Eagle Pass, Texas.
A 13 year veteran kindergarten teacher, LDC's Mrs. Cavazos makes learning fun and a positive experience for every child. Her students feel important and recognized by her winning smile. She helps both students and parents negotiate the challenges and adjustments of this exciting and sometimes difficult grade level. Furthermore, in her 13 years, Mrs. Cavazos has survived a tornado and two floods that wiped out her stockpile of teaching materials on two campuses, but not her spirit! Now that takes dedication!
Science stands out as Mrs. Cavazos' s strong suit. Yearly, Mrs. Cavazos leads students in gardening on campus, hands-on science experiements and animal studies - even hatching chicks in an incubator in her classroom. Her room and hall displays indicate the level of engagement of her students in higher order thinking skills.
Mrs. Cavazos has effectively instructed 5 year old students in early reading. She serves as campus coordinator for the Pizza Hut sponsored Book-It program as well as the Read to Succeed program sponsored by Fiesta Texas. Both programs promote reading skills acquisition with incentives for the number of hours students read per month. Mrs. Cavazos enlists many students throughout the campus each year to participate in and enjoy the benefits of the these programs.
Mrs. Cavazos is a devoted wife and mother of three boys. Her family enjoys going to the library and playing sports, especially baseball. Her two older boys are part of a traveling team, so most weekends the family travels out of town to the watch the boys compete.
Mrs. Cavazos is an able professional radiating the warmth of a mother while demonstration the skill of an educator who prepares a strong foundation for lifelong learning. Due to her outstanding qualities and commitment to the students of LDC, Mrs. Nayara Cavazos is a kindergarten teacher who truly has earned the title of "Teacher of the Month."
