Friday, April 27th, C.C. Winn was fortunate enough to have an Eagle Pass native return to her roots and visit their school.
Published novelist, Guadalupe Garcia McCall, visited the campus and gave insight into one of her most recognized books, “Under the Mesquite”, a story of a young Hispanic girl who deals with adversities presented to her during her formative years.
In her book, she highlights the Hispanic culture as well as the city of Eagle Pass.
Every student in their English class read this novel and was given the opportunity to experience a Q&A Session with the author herself followed this by a book signing and photo op.
This opportunity could not have been possible if it were not for Maverick Librarian, Mrs. Landin, who contacted the author and made the necessary arrangements for her visit.
On behalf C. C. Winn High School English Department and Library, the Mavericks would like to extend their gratitude to Miss Garcia McCall for taking the time to come back and visit “El Augila”, and for providing such a marvelous experience for the students!
