One of the purposes of the Student Council TASC Annual Conference is to elect new state officers for the upcoming school year.
Schools elected to serve as TASC state officers are represented on the TASC Board of Directors by one student representative and school advisor.
The Board of Directors is the policy making body for the association. Throughout the conference, member schools have multiple opportunities to learn about the candidate’s schools’ qualifications to serve and their platform (an idea they are promoting for TASC). Candidates communicate their campaign theme, platform, and qualifications through a campaign booth, a display board, student speech, participation in a Meet the Candidates session, and a campaign skit.
Members from the C. C. Winn Student Council used real-life voting skills on April 15th when they had to consider how well the school communicated their theme as well as the strength of the platform throughout the entire process while at the State Conference.
StuCo members sat together during lunch on the “election day” and discussed the schools and how they felt they wanted to be represented on the State Board.
StuCo officers Laura Curi, Samantha Cardenas and Nayeli Rodriguez spoke to the group of students about what they learned during these candidate “meet and greets” and President Pablo Garcia Jr. discussed all president school applicants.
Using parliamentary procedure Pablo held the school to a vote to decide on who they were going to cast their ballots for.
He also coordinated with the students the next day when they had to further inquire about the schools who made it into a run-off election.
StuCo Parliamentarian, Alexis Gomez served as the balloting representative for this year, and was responsible to pick up and submit the official ballots for C.C. Winn High School.
