Mrs. Botello’s and Instructional Aide Mr. Vielma's theme unit is space and to capture the essence of this concept, their students had a rocket launch.
Students followed a series of steps in order to complete their rocket project and put it to the test.
They also had to color, cut, and tape a smoothie straw to the rocket.
The students then had to predict what would happen if the rocket was launched inside the classroom and outside of the classroom.
They made sure take weather into consideration!
When the rocket was put to the test, the students inserted a much thinner straw into the smoothie straw in order to blow air into it and have it take flight.
The students learned about the force they had to use in blowing and the position in which to place the rocket in order for it to launch in a certain direction.
The students also discovered that launching their rockets inside was a bit different than outside because of weather conditions.
The students experienced a breezy morning when outside so they came to the conclusion that weather is very important and that it makes a difference when launching a rocket.
What an awesome launch into Summer!
