Cougars Conquer Projects

On September 16, 2019, 4th grade students in Mrs. Torres-Hernandez's class and Mrs. Ochoa's class at Sam Houston worked on a cumulative reading project.
As a skills test to check comprehension and retention of information taught the previous weeks in reading, students were assigned to analyze a fiction story.
1st students were asked to read a story as a group.
This allowed students the opportunity to use their Leveled Readers.
Then, students were asked to determine Point of View, Author's purpose.
Students then determined their book's main idea, and summarized the story they read.
Afterward, each student choose a different character from the story they had selected and analyzed character traits. Students considered a character's actions and words and determined a character's motivation and perspectives.
They then compared and contrasted the character to another character in their story.
Along with this, students selected 5 words from their books that were unknown to them and worked on practicing dictionary skills.
This entire project allowed students to show their understanding of skills they had learned throughout a three week period. Mrs. Torres and Mrs. Ochoa are exceedingly proud of their students!
It was hard work, but they all did their part and everyone showed just how smart Cougars are!
Wonderful job Cougars!
The Cougars are definitely off to a great start at Sam Houston Elementary!
