WHS' Scarlet Letters

Students enrolled in AP Language and Composition class at Winn High School were tasked with emulating the main character of Nathanial Hawthorne's "The Scarlet Letter" by displaying a personal flaw on their chest on September 12th.
In Hawthorne's novel, protagonist Hester Prynne must wear a scarlet "A" for adultery on her clothing to publicize her sin to the rest of the townspeople.
In the 17th century Puritan town setting, Hester's scarlet letter is a source of shame and the cause of her isolation.
The main goal of the activity was to give students the chance to step into the shoes of the novel's protagonist and teach them about the symbolism paired with their chosen letter(s).
