On September 19, 2019, the English II students in Mrs. Salinas' regular and PreAP classes at Winn were getting ready to read The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger.
As a precursor to the novel, the students were given the task of contemplating the themes in the novels.
The main character, Holden Caulfield, is faced with many expectations in his life.
Students were given a list of ten expectations including good grades, money, responsible citizen, etc., that they needed to rank according to their personal feelings.
Students brought in ten rocks of varying sizes that represented the pressures that their expectations impress on their lives.
They lined them up according to sizes.
Students were able to reflect upon their own pressures in their lives to prepare them to read the novel.
Go Mavericks!
