The club leaders of C.C. Winn High School gathered on April
20th for the annual Student Leadership Luncheon in honor of National Student
Leadership Week.
Every year Winn Student Council hosts a luncheon for all the
presidents/captains of the school's organizations and teams as an acknowledgement for the hard work they do all year
long. The luncheon consisted of a catered lunch and speeches from Eagle Pass
Independent School District Superintendent Gilberto Gonzalez and C.C. Winn
High School Principal Jesus Diaz-Wever.
These individuals have worked
tirelessly their whole lives to be the best leader of their respective groups. That
same determination will follow them into their future.
“I am always very proud of the accomplishments the students bring to C.C. Winn High School,” Diaz said. “Every leader in this room has made a difference in our clubs, organizations and overall school pride.”
Not only does C.C. Winn contain great student leadership,
they have a great staff that is always thinking of new ways to reinvent the
norm.
“Winn StuCo has always tried to be a trend-setter within our
school district. Amongst the many events that we have established at our school
is the Student Leadership Luncheon. The gathering celebrates all group leaders
in conjunction with National Student Leadership Week, which is held every year
in April,” Student Council Sponsor, Juan Jose Olivares said. “Everyone says
that our teenagers are the leaders of tomorrow...well, we believe these
Mavericks are excellent leaders today.”
In his closing remarks, Superintendent Gonzalez emphasized a key
characteristic of the best kind of leader, something all the individuals can
take home and apply to their own responsibilities.
“A good leader holds a steady eye on their vision whereas a
great leader focuses on the nurturing of his peers,” Gonzalez said. “With
nurtured peers a leader will have an army of support to tackle his vision.”
