Animal
shelters should be only a temporary living environment for animals however,
sometimes animals are kept there for long periods of time. The animals kept in
the shelter are lonely and are not given the nurturing and care of an animal
that has a family. The animals at the shelter are either found on the streets
or are taken away from their owners due to animal cruelty. In our local animal
shelter we have a lack of quality care and poor living environments. Due to the
many animals at our local shelter our FFA members are hosting a blanket drive
for this upcoming winter. FFA members that donate a blanket will get points
that can be used for various activities throughout the school year for example
running for office, show points, or a senior sash. This drive is also
considered part of our involvement in our service to the community. As FFA
members they are committed to helping our community one step at a time by
starting with our smallest and defenseless animals to our elderly. They hope that their blankets provide love and warmth for the animals in our local animal
shelter this winter and that they can continue to help them.
