October 17th - 21st was Benavides Heights Elementary's Drug-Free
and Anti-bullying Week! The theme was “We are givers, not takers! We give
confidence, commitment, respect, and kindness; We do not take self-esteem,
respect, dignity, and friendship”. Each day was celebrated with dress days and a personal act of giving and kindness.
Monday: Kings/Queens of citizenship –
Wear
purple, and/or dress like a king/queen. The giving activity was bring in a can
of food that is not expired.
Tuesday: Show responsibility for your Environment
–
Make a hat out of recycled paper or plastic. Wear green and/or your recycled
hat. The giving activity was promise to keep your school clean. If you see
trash on the ground or at a table, pick it up.
Wednesday: Be a happy emoji,
and respect others -
Wear yellow and/or emojis. The giving activity was give a
compliment and a hand shake to a classmate.
Thursday: Hearts against bullies
and drugs –
Wear red and/or hearts. The giving activity was make a card for an
older person and bring it to your teacher. The counselor will deliver them to
local nursing homes.
Friday: Promise to be a dreamer and not a bully -
Wear
blue and/or pajamas. The giving activity was sign an Anti-bullying Pledge in
your classroom.
