Eagle Pass FFA competed in their fall
Career Development competitions and surpassed even our highest
expectations.
They competed in two major
contests.
The first level of competition was
District contest held by Jourdanton at the Peeler Ranch. Their Plant Identification teams had to learn to identify 100 plants and their
characteristics. The Greenhands, or
first year team, placed 1st and 4th out of 14 teams.
Participants were Gabriela Montes, Anamaria
Guerra, Melanie Morales, Arturo Molina, Tamara Lopez, Ana Lucia De Luna,
Samantha Molina, and Andres Gutierrez; all of these kids placed in the top 19
out of 46 individuals.
The chapter Plant Identification
teams placed 2nd, 7th, 11th, and 17th
out of 31 teams. Participants were
Sebastian Adan, Eduardo De la Garza, Gunner Purcell, and Gerardo Galindo, who
placed in the top 10. Marifer Santos,
Luisa Esparza, Daniela Molina, Gabriela Garza, Jesus De la Garza, Ashley
Martinez, and Romelia Flores placed in the top half. Annmarie Aza, Maria
Vasquez, Roberto Martinez, Karla Saucedo, and Delaney Esquivel also competed.
Some of these students advanced to
area competition, which was held at the Welder Wildlife Refuge by Sinton.
Both the Greenhand and the Chapter teams
placed 1st place overall!
The chapter team members were Sebastian Adan with 2nd place,
Gunner Purcell with 4th, EJ de la Garza with 7th, Daniela
Molina with 8th, Gerardo Galindo with 12th, Luisa Esparza
with 13th, and Marifer Santos with 17th; these were out
of 72 individuals.
The Greenhand team
members were Anamaria Guerra with 3rd, Ana Lucia De Luna with 4th,
Gabriela Montes with 5th, Arturo Molina with 7th, Melanie
Morales with 10th, and Tamara Lopez, Andres Gutierrez, and Samantha
Molina.
The Land team learned how to identify different
types of soil, and placed 8th out of 32 teams at District and also
competed at Area; members were Chris Aza, Hannah Wauson, Juieta Leija, Jose
Jimenez, Katrina Besa, and Pablo De la Garza.
