Friday, September 13th, the students in Mrs. De Luna's Pre-AP Chemistry class at Eagle Pass High School used paper chromatography to determine whether the dyes used in M&Ms candy are pure substances or mixtures.
A pure substance is a substance made up of a single type of atom.
A mixture is made up of two or more different substances.
Students were able to discover primary colors are pure substances and secondary colors are mixtures because the dye is created by combining different primary colors.
