EPHS Goes Through the Changes

Tuesday, September 25th, the students in Miss Byrne's Chemistry class at Eagle Pass High School worked together to demonstrate physical and chemical changes.
In groups, the class conducted a lab where they were tasked to find evidence that supported their claim of whether a physical or chemical change had occurred.
A physical change involves a change in physical properties.
Physical properties can be observed without changing the type of matter.
Examples of physical properties include: texture, shape, size, color, odor, volume, mass, weight, pH and density.
Chemical changes are changes substances undergo when they become new or different substances.
To identify a chemical change look for observable signs such as color change, bubbling and fizzing, light production, smoke, and presence of heat.
