EPHS Creates New Element

Thursday February 7th, students in Miss Byrne’s Pre-AP Chemistry class at Eagle Pass High School created their own element, Beanium!
The students needed to discover the atomic mass of their element.
They were given different colored beans that represent different isotopes of the element.
Isotopes occur when elements gain or lose neutrons which causes different atomic masses.
The students worked in pairs to measure and calculate the various masses to find one overall mass for beanium.
Way to go Eagles!
