WHS Flaunts Their Flaw

Hester Prynne, the protagonist of The Scarlet Letter, condemned by her sin, is forced to wear a scarlet letter “A” pinned to her clothes.
This is symbolic of the significant character flaw she possesses.
As a result of the sin she committed because of her flaw, Hester was shunned by society.
As an extended English III AP project, Mr. Rocha challenged his students at Winn to conduct a self analysis that would help them identify a personal character flaw.
Thursday, September 6th, the Mavericks wore the letter that represented this character flaw pinned to their clothing for the entire school day.
The assignment was concluded with an essay analyzing the reactions of those around them as a result of the letters they wore.
Students drew their own conclusions of what the “public exposure” of their flaw created.
All in all, the students enjoyed the activity and can’t wait to see what else Mr. Rocha has in store for them.

Good job, Mavericks!
