Mrs. Mercer's English IV classes at Winn High School were challenged to test out their poetic nature.
During their sonnet unit, students learned all that has to be learned about the Shakespearean Sonnet.
Writing a love sonnet proved far more challenging than expected, yet, Mrs. Mercer was quite impressed with her second term students as they proved to be naturals.
Students were given the task to emulate a Shakespearean sonnet, iambic pentameter and all.
As they wrote, students used various methods to ensure they met the poem requirements.
Tapping on the desk to create the rhyming pattern, using their fingers to count syllables, and even reverting to sylabization claps was what students did to create the final effect.
Wednesday, January 30th, students added the finishing touches and proudly submitted their love sonnets to their classmates.
The sonnets ranged from unrequited love, hopeless romanticism, deceit, platonic love, and eternal love.
Great job, Seniors!
Your sonnets did not disappoint.
